Water Weight Exercises to Strengthen the Upper Body

If you’re looking to add some extra tone to your upper body muscles, using water weights is a great method! You can adjust the resistance by adding water to or taking water out of the weights. Check out these five upper body exercises for getting toned while in your at home exercise pool!

1. Bicep curls

This classic move is vital for shaping your arms. Stand in the pool with your arms relaxed by your sides, with one water weight in each hand. Face your palms up and engage your biceps to curl the weights up to your shoulder. Lower your arms back down and repeat at least 10 times.

2. Karate punches

Tone various muscles in your arms with this versatile exercise. Begin by holding the water weights close to the chest. In one swift movement, punch out into the pool with one arm. Bring it back in and punch with the other arm. Repeat this alternating motion for at least 20 reps.

3. Flies

This movement tones your chest and should be repeated at least 10 times. Stand in the Fitmax iPool and hold the water weight in front of you at chest level. Keep your palms facing up and move your arms to the sides while pulling your shoulders back. The motion is similar to getting ready to hug someone. Bring your arms back to center and repeat.

4. Triceps pushes

To strengthen the back of your upper arms, start by standing and holding the weights at chest level. Your elbows should be bent with your palms facing one another. In a slow and controlled movement, push the weights down into the water near your legs until your arms are straight. Pull them back to center and repeat the movement.

5. Shoulder shrugs

This exercise tones your shoulders and helps relieve tension from the muscles. Stand with your arms relaxed at your sides and your palms facing in toward your thighs while holding one weight in each hand. Raise your shoulders slowly, making sure you only engage the shoulder muscles. At the peak of the movement, push your shoulders back a bit before lowering them back down.
